How do I remove the piercing backing?

Our piercing studs all have a special medical-grade plastic backing that is "sealed" on and can only be removed by first toggling the backing back and forth with some force to loosen the plastic.

If you try to just pull off the backing like a regular earring, in all likelihood it will not budge.
